(Web Desk): Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an unconditional ceasefire to end the ongoing border dispute.
The agreement was reached during high-level talks held in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The negotiations were attended by Thailand’s acting Prime Minister, Cambodia’s Prime Minister, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, while ambassadors from the United States and China were also present on the occasion.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told the media that both parties have not only agreed to a ceasefire but have also decided to restore direct communication.
He said that the US President had also urged the leaders of both countries to seek a peaceful resolution.
The Cambodian Prime Minister described the talks as "encouraging," expressing hope that the fighting would stop immediately.
It is worth noting that recent border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia have so far claimed 35 lives and displaced more than 300,000 people.
