California Senate unanimously passes historic resolution recognizing Pakistani-American contributions
Resolution highlights the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between Pakistan and the United States and acknowledges the significant contributions of Pakistani Americans to California’s development

(Web Desk): The California State Senate has unanimously passed a historic resolution honoring the contributions of the Pakistani-American community to the economy, society, and culture of California, and recognizing their role in strengthening Pakistan–US relations.
The resolution was introduced by Senator Melissa Hurtado, who marked the occasion by wearing traditional Pakistani attire and mehndi (henna) as she entered the Senate chamber.
Senator Hurtado is the youngest elected female member of the California Senate and currently serves as Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
The resolution highlights the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between Pakistan and the United States and acknowledges the significant contributions of Pakistani Americans to California’s development—the fourth-largest economy in the world.
It also emphasizes the strong cultural ties among Pakistani-American youth, who remain connected to their heritage, and applauds individuals and organizations that have promoted Pakistani-American culture, traditions, and achievements.
In her remarks, Senator Hurtado celebrated the strength of Pakistan–US relations and praised the Pakistani community’s story in America as one of sacrifice, dignity, and perseverance. She emphasized that the Pakistan–US partnership is rooted in shared values of democracy and human dignity.
Senator Hurtado also welcomed Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, who was present in the Senate, and thanked him for his efforts in enhancing Pakistan–US ties.
Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh expressed deep appreciation for the strong bipartisan support and commended both Senator Hurtado and the Council of Pakistan for their efforts in presenting and passing the resolution unanimously.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and people-to-people ties, and noted that the adoption of this resolution on the occasion of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day reflects the enduring strength of the relationship—not just between governments, but between the peoples of both nations.
California, known as the “Golden State,” continues to grow as a global economic powerhouse and a hub of cultural diversity.
