Islamabad: The government has expanded the powers of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
According to the Ministry of Interior, cybercrimes will now fall under the scope of the Anti-Money Laundering Act. The spread of false and fake information will now be punishable under this act.
Those earning money through misinformation on social media will also be held accountable. The agency will investigate social media earnings under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
The agency will now have the authority to investigate cyber terrorism, electronic fraud, and will also take action against child pornography and online grooming.
The NCCIA will also act against unauthorized use of identity information, illegal issuance of SIM cards, and will handle cases related to child sexual exploitation and cyber enticement.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the agency will also penalize the use of information systems in kidnapping, smuggling, or child trafficking.
