‘We are already helping China in this project and will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future’

(Web Desk): The head of Russia’s state nuclear agency, Rosatom, has stated that Russia will fully support China in gaining nuclear supremacy over the United States.
According to a foreign news agency, the largest network of nuclear reactors in the world currently belongs to the United States, with a capacity of 97 gigawatts, while China ranks second. Based on official U.S. data from April 2024, China’s operational nuclear reactor capacity stands at 53.2 gigawatts.
In a statement aired by Russia’s state broadcaster, Alexey Likhachev, the head of Rosatom State Nuclear Corporation, said that China has a major development plan for nuclear power plants and aims to surpass the United States in nuclear reactor capacity — a goal that would bring China’s nuclear power capacity to 100 gigawatts.
In response to a question, Likhachev said, “We are already helping China in this project and will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future.”
The Rosatom chief added that Russia has assisted China in building four nuclear reactors, and China is currently constructing four more. For this, China requires large quantities of uranium and nuclear fuel, which will enable it to produce a new batch of nuclear fuel cycles based on Russian technology.
