This achievement was made possible through the integration and analysis of geological, geophysical, and reservoir engineering data

Attock: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has discovered new oil and gas reserves at the Dhok Sultan-03 well located in Attock District, Punjab.
According to PPL, this historic discovery in the Dhok Sultan Block is not only a significant milestone for PPL and its joint venture partner, Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL), but also marks the second deep oil discovery in naturally fractured carbonate reservoirs in the Potohar region.
The company stated that this achievement was made possible through the integration and analysis of geological, geophysical, and reservoir engineering data, which led to an improved well design and overcoming drilling challenges.
PPL, acting as the operator with a 75% working interest and GHPL holding 25%, began drilling at Dhok Sultan-03 on January 18, 2025, and reached a total depth of 5,815 meters.
It was reported that hydrocarbon testing in the Patala and Lockhart formations yielded highly encouraging results.
With a 1,147 psig wellhead flowing pressure and 64/32-inch choke, the well produced 1,469 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 2.56 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD).
With a 813 psig WHFP and a 64/48-inch choke, the production increased to 2,113 BOPD and 4.13 MMCFD.
PPL stated that this development indicates the presence of hydrocarbons in the Potohar-Kohat sub-basin, successfully unlocked through advanced technologies and technical capabilities.
PPL Managing Director and CEO Imran Abbasy said that this discovery reflects PPL’s expertise, perseverance, and commitment to energy security, showcasing the company’s cutting-edge technical strength.
He further added that this discovery would help reduce the country’s dependence on imported energy and save valuable foreign exchange.
