58-year-old Anutin Charnvirakul received 311 votes to become the new Prime Minister

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul of the opposition party has been elected as Thailand’s new Prime Minister, replacing Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was recently removed from office by the country’s Constitutional Court.
According to a foreign news agency, 58-year-old Anutin Charnvirakul received 311 votes to become the new Prime Minister. He is the third Prime Minister in two years to be elected by Parliament following the suspension of a predecessor.
According to the final official results, Anutin secured a clear majority in the 492-member lower house, after which he was elected as the country’s new Prime Minister.
Last month, Thailand’s Constitutional Court dismissed Prime Minister Shinawatra from office over a leaked phone call with a former Cambodian leader.
According to foreign media reports, the Constitutional Court ruled that the ousted Prime Minister Shinawatra had acted unethically during a phone call with Cambodian leader Hun Sen, leading to her dismissal.
Media reports also state that since 2008, Shinawatra is the fifth Thai Prime Minister to be removed from office by a court order.
