PDMA Punjab, NHA, and local administration are actively working to protect the motorway from damage

Multan: Due to the worsening flood situation, Motorway M-5 has been closed to all types of traffic near Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan district.
According to the spokesperson for the Director General of PDMA, the erosion caused by floodwaters poses a serious threat of breaching the motorway. PDMA Punjab, the National Highway Authority (NHA), and local administration are actively working to protect the motorway from damage.
Sandbags and stones are being used to prevent major erosion. Officials expect a significant decrease in floodwater levels in Jalalpur Pirwala within the next 24 hours.
Water flow in Punjab’s rivers is rapidly decreasing. At Panjnad, the flow has dropped to 392,000 cusecs, while at Guddu Barrage, it stands at 627,000 cusecs.
According to a Motorway Police spokesperson, traffic is being diverted to alternate routes. Diversions have been set up at the request of NHA officials.
For northbound traffic, vehicles are being rerouted from Uch Sharif, Jhangra, and Jalalpur interchanges.
For southbound traffic, diversions are in place from Shah Shams, Sher Shah, and Shujabad South interchanges to alternative routes.
