1,100 electric taxis will be provided in the first phase

Lahore: The Punjab government has announced the formal launch of the province’s first e-taxi scheme under the Transport Vision 2030.
In the first phase of the scheme, 1,100 electric taxis will be provided to the citizens. Interested persons can submit their applications online on the e-Taxi Punjab website by October 5, 2025.
According to government officials, this initiative will not only reduce air pollution but will also significantly reduce fuel costs, which will provide citizens with an environmentally friendly and cost-effective travel facility. It will also improve the urban transport system in the province and create new employment opportunities.
This scheme is also expected to improve the transport system in the major cities of Punjab.
According to the plan, the government will provide a subsidized down payment facility to the buyers, while the government will bear the burden of interest payment. For vehicles worth Rs4 million to Rs10 million, the Punjab government will also pay Rs585,000 as the buyer’s down payment, while the remaining amount will be financed by the partner banks.
It is pertinent to note that the government has recently approved a financing scheme for electric vehicles. Last month, the Chief Minister approved this scheme, under which the partner banks will provide loans of up to Rs6.56 million.
