Islamabad: The Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman, has revealed that the data of about 300,000 people who applied for Hajj has been leaked on the dark web.
On Friday, the Chairman PTA briefed the Senate Standing Committee on IT, chaired by Chairperson Senator Palwasha Khan, on some other issues, including data theft.
He revealed that the data of about 300,000 people who applied for Hajj has been leaked on the dark web.
The PTA Chairman said that in 2022, the data was reported on the dark web. The data of the SIMs is with the company. We had inquired about it in 2022. My own SIM data has been on the dark web since 2022. The solution to internet problems is a spectrum auction.
On this occasion, government senator Afnanullah Khan said that we are facing pressure from abroad not to legislate to secure data in Pakistan.
The standing committee expressed its anger over the poor quality of mobile phone service across the country and frequent dropped calls.
