Dubai: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made it illegal to portray public figures using artificial intelligence.
The United Arab Emirates has issued a clear warning that misrepresenting public figures and national symbols through artificial intelligence (AI) or spreading misleading information will be considered a serious violation of the law.
The Emirates Media Council said that such activities are not only a violation of professional and ethical responsibility but can also lead to severe fines and legal action under Emirati media laws.
The Emirates Media Council has warned the public not to affect anyone’s identity with the help of artificial intelligence.
Rules issued by Emirati authorities
Presenting public figures or national symbols with artificial intelligence tools without official permission is a violation of media laws. Hate speech, false propaganda, character assassination, and attacks on social values are unacceptable. Negative actions will be subject to heavy fines and administrative penalties under media laws.
It is pertinent to note that in recent years, the UAE has tightened social media regulations to protect the public from fake news and harmful content.
There is a deep concern around the world about the increasing use of artificial intelligence, with several world-renowned personalities complaining that their voices and faces are being used for fakery by artificial intelligence.
The UAE will also implement a new advertising licensing system from next month, under which more than 1,800 people from 75 countries have been issued permits so far.
The Media Council also recently took action against a social media account that published an advertisement based on medical claims without approval, which was declared misleading and substandard.
