The Simpsons to return with film after 20 years
Sequel will be released on July 23, 2027

If you are one of those fans who have been waiting for the sequel after hearing Maggie whisper about it for almost two decades, then get ready! The longest-running, yellow family in American TV history, The Simpsons, is once again coming back to rock the big screen!
The sequel to The Simpsons Movie has been officially confirmed by 20th Century Studios and will be released on July 23, 2027.
In the poster shared on Instagram, a donut was crushed by someone’s hand, and it was written, “Homer’s coming back for seconds,” meaning Homer is once again coming to satisfy his hunger and create a ruckus. Now you know that Homer Simpson's love for donuts is no secret, so it's possible that this time too, Homer will be the one to cause a big mess.
This cartoon series, created by cartoonist Matt Groening, started in 1989. The story revolves around the Simpsons family. Homer, the carefree, donut- and beer-crazed father, the patient, blue-haired mother Marge, the mischievous son Bart, the intelligent daughter Lisa, and the dumb but smart daughter Maggie.
The series has been running continuously since its inception, and has completed 37 seasons. It holds the world record for the longest-running animated and scripted prime-time American TV show, and has already received the green signal for its 40th season.
In the first film, released in 2007, Homer's carelessness put the entire Springfield in danger. The film surprised Hollywood by earning more than half a billion dollars worldwide. And at the end, Maggie’s one word, ‘sequel,’ kept fans waiting for years.
Why the delay in the sequel? The talk of this sequel had been going on for a long time, but the coronavirus pandemic put everything on hold. Al Jean, the writer and executive producer of ‘The Simpsons’, had earlier said that the sequel talks were on hold. But then, the recent $1.6 billion box office storm of Disney’s animated film ‘Inside Out 2’ has boosted the studio’s morale, and now it seems that the time has come for The Simpsons to return to the big screen.
At the moment, no details have been released about the plot of the new film, meaning the story is being kept under wraps for now, but one thing is certain: after almost two decades, Homer and his family are returning to make us laugh, think, and perhaps get caught up in a global crisis again. Let's see what new spectacle Homer creates in the sequel.
It's also no secret that The Simpsons has accurately predicted several real-life events. These include Donald Trump becoming president, Disney buying Fox, the show's network, America winning the gold medal in curling at the Olympics, Lady Gaga's Super Bowl halftime show, a lion attacking Siegfried and Roy, the FIFA corruption scandal, and Richard Branson's suborbital flight into space. These predictions range from politics to culture and sports, showing that the show has an uncanny ability to provide a glimpse of the future in a humorous way. See what happens next.
