Wyze has announced its first battery-powered, solar-charged, 2K security camera that can rotate and tilt, providing coverage of your entire yard. The Wyze Solar Cam Pan is available now through Wyze’s online store for $79.98, making it cheaper than competitors’ offerings like Reolink’s $88 2K pan-and-tilt security camera, Tapo’s $170 4K VistaCam 360 that launched earlier this year, and the $160 3K Eufy Security SoloCam S340.
Wyze says the Solar Cam Pan’s high-efficiency solar panel can keep it running continuously with just an hour of exposure to sunlight each day. The company hasn’t shared details about how long it will run on battery power alone should the weather turn cloudy for a while, or how much battery life will be reduced if the 360-degree pan, 70-degree tilt mechanism is used extensively.
The camera can be controlled remotely using Wyze’s mobile app, but it also leverages AI to detect people and move the camera automatically to track their movements across your property. The Solar Cam Pan can record at night using an IR light to illuminate subjects in low-light conditions, and it can double as a deterrent to chase people and animals away using a small motion-activated LED spotlight and a siren. But it’s not designed to be used as a floodlight.

The Solar Cam Pan comes with an IP65 water resistance rating, which means you’re not limited to installing it where it’s protected against the elements. It supports two-way audio using the Wyze mobile app and offers smart home integrations with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT. Continuous local recording is an option but you’ll probably want to upgrade the camera’s internal storage using an optional microSD card up to 512GB in size.
You can also connect the Solar Cam Pan to Wyze’s cloud storage with subscription plans that range in price from $2.99 per month to $19.99 per month — if you’re comfortable using the company’s connected features. Last year Wyze had a serious security breach that affected thousands of customers following vulnerabilities in now-discontinued products that the company hadn’t disclosed for years. Wyze has since been working to improve its security practices to regain the trust of consumers.
