Proposed Constitutional Amendment: Joint parliamentary committee approves all 49 amendments clause by clause
Opposition parties boycott committee meeting

Islamabad: The joint parliamentary committee of the Senate and the National Assembly on Law and Justice has approved the complete draft of the proposed constitutional amendment, endorsing all 49 clauses one by one.
The meeting of the joint committee, co-chaired by Senator Farooq H. Naek and Makhdoom Mahmood Bashir Virk, was attended by Senators Tahir Khalil Sindhu, Hidayatullah, Shahadat Awan, and Zameer Hussain Ghumro, as well as MNAs Ali Haider Gillani, Saira Afzal Tarar, Bilal Azhar Kayani, Syed Naveed Qamar, and Abrar Shah. Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Justice Raja Naeem Akbar and other senior officials were also present.
Meanwhile, opposition parties boycotted the committee meeting. Members from PTI, JUI-F, PKMAP, and MWM did not attend the session.
Committee members expressed regret over the opposition’s absence, saying that opposition representatives should have participated in this crucial sitting. They described the boycott as “deeply unfortunate” and accused opposition parties of deliberately distancing themselves from the entire legislative process.
According to sources, the joint parliamentary committee approved the complete draft of the proposed constitutional amendment, passing all 49 clauses individually.
Sources further revealed that the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, already approved by the federal cabinet, will be presented before the Parliament tomorrow. The coalition parties’ proposed amendments will also be reconsidered during the next sitting.
The Awami National Party (ANP), however, has raised objections to the 27th Amendment. The government has sought additional time to review the ANP’s proposal to rename Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as the amendment seeking to increase the number of provincial assembly seats in Balochistan. A final decision on both matters is expected tomorrow after further deliberations.
