Latest resignation follows approval of 27th Constitutional Amendment

Lahore: Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court (LHC) also tendered his resignation on Saturday soon after the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The judge formally sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari.
Justice Mirza was appointed as an additional judge of the LHC in March 2014, and his superannuation was due on March 6, 2028.
Justice Mirza is the first judge from any high court to resign after the approval of 27th Constitutional Amendment. On November 13, two senior judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, resigned from their posts, citing serious concerns over the amendment, which they described as an attack on the independence of the judiciary.
Their resignations were later approved by the president.
