President confers Nishan-e-Pakistan on Indonesian President

Islamabad: The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, conferred the highest civilian honor of Pakistan, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, to the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, during his official visit to Pakistan.

According to reports, the ceremony was held at the Aiwan-i-Sadr (President’s House), where the President of Pakistan presented the Nishan-e-Pakistan to President Widodo. In addition to President Zardari, the Prime Minister, Chairman of the Senate, Speaker of the National Assembly, and senior military officials were present at the ceremony.

During the dignified event, both leaders discussed the historical relationship between Pakistan and Indonesia and agreed on shared values and long-standing goodwill between the two nations. According to a statement issued by the Aiwan-i-Sadr, both leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation for the peace, stability, and prosperity of both countries.

The statement further mentioned that President Zardari expressed his deep sorrow and condolences over the recent floods and landslides in Sumatra, Indonesia, and prayed for the victims’ forgiveness and the swift recovery of the injured.

The two Presidents reaffirmed their commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and tolerance. They also decided to build future partnerships based on the principles of comprehensive development.

The bilateral Joint Trade Committee was highlighted as an effective forum for enhancing business relations between the two countries. Additionally, both Pakistan and Indonesia agreed to increase cooperation in sectors such as Information Technology, agriculture, energy, and tourism. They also emphasized joint efforts to tackle climate change, disaster management, and sustainable development.

According to the statement, both leaders agreed to strengthen defense cooperation, including training and joint production. They also expressed a shared commitment to combat Islamophobia and highlighted the need for peace and development in the region.

On this occasion, President Zardari briefed President Widodo about the situation in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir. Senior ministers, officials, and military leadership from both countries participated in an extended meeting. Later, a formal dinner was hosted in honor of President Widodo at the Aiwan-i-Sadr.
