Adil Raja, Sabir Shakir, Wajahat Saeed, Moeed Pirzada get two life terms each in May 9 digital terrorism case

Islamabad: The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has announced its verdict in a case pertaining to digital terrorism against state institutions related to the events of May 9.
In the ATC Islamabad, the prosecution presented a total of 24 witnesses in the digital terrorism case. Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra pronounced the reserved verdict.
On behalf of the prosecution, Raja Naveed Hussain Kiani appeared before the court, while Advocate Gulfam Ashraf Goraya represented the accused. Advocate Gulfam Goraya had been appointed by the court as counsel for the accused. Under anti-terrorism laws, a trial may be conducted in the absence of the accused.
The court sentenced Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi, Wajahat Saeed, Sabir Shakir, and Moeed Pirzada to two counts of life imprisonment each in the digital terrorism case.
In addition, the Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced the accused to a combined total of 35 years’ imprisonment under other charges and imposed fines of Rs. 1.5 million on each convict.
At the request of the prosecution, the court completed the trial in the absence of the accused and had reserved the verdict earlier.
It is noteworthy that in the case registered at Abpara Police Station, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, and Syed Akbar Hussain were awarded life imprisonment, while Shaheen Sehbai, Haider Mehdi, and Wajahat Saeed were also sentenced. In the case registered at Ramna Police Station, Shaheen Sehbai, Haider Mehdi, and Wajahat Saeed were likewise convicted and sentenced.
