Child’s body recovered from sewer line; CM seeks accountability

Lahore: The body of a young girl who fell into a sewer line near Data Darbar has been recovered.

According to rescue officials, the body of 10-month-old Rida Fatima—who had fallen into the sewer—was found in a sewer line on Outfall Road.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered strict action against administrative negligence and carelessness following the incident in which a woman and her child fell into an open sewer hole.

Upon returning from Bhakkar, the Chief Minister convened an emergency meeting at the airport and directed that an impartial fact-finding report on the incident be submitted immediately.

In addition, the preliminary investigation report has been released. It states that the affected woman, her child, and her husband were seen shopping near Data Darbar at 6:47 pm, and all three reached the area in front of Data Darbar at 7:22 pm.

According to the report, at 7:30 pm the family was seen heading from Data Darbar toward Old Paranda Market. At 7:32 pm, Rescue 1122 received a call reporting that the woman and the child had fallen into the sewer, after which rescue personnel arrived at the scene within four minutes.

The initial report further notes that the woman’s mother-in-law was seen raising an alarm and calling for help from passersby.

It is worth noting that the body of the woman who fell into the sewer had already been recovered earlier.
