PM holds phone call with BNP leader Tarique Rahman, congratulates on election victory

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Tarique Rahman, the leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and congratulated him on his electoral victory.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of general elections and expressed his commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The statement said that both leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and regional peace and development. They also paid tribute to Begum Khaleda Zia for her services to Pakistan-Bangladesh relations. Both leaders agreed to stay in contact and work together for public welfare.

The statement further mentioned that the Prime Minister invited Tarique Rahman to visit Pakistan soon.

It is worth noting that the Bangladesh Election Commission has announced the results of the parliamentary elections held in the country yesterday. According to the results, Tarique Rahman’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a two-thirds majority.

Official results released by the Bangladesh Election Commission show that out of 299 seats, BNP won 212 seats, gaining a clear lead, while Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the second-largest party with 77 seats.
