Web Desk: Pakistani cinema has achieved a major international milestone as director Bilal Lashari announced that the blockbuster film "The Legend of Maula Jatt" will be released in Chinese cinemas on May 21. The development is being hailed as a historic moment for Pakistan’s film industry.
The film stars Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi and Ali Azmat in prominent roles. Director Bilal Lashari shared the news on social media, describing it as a landmark achievement for Pakistani cinema.
He revealed that this is the first Pakistani film to secure a place in China’s highly restricted and tightly controlled foreign film import quota. Alongside the announcement, he also released a Mandarin-dubbed poster and trailer, which further heightened excitement among fans.
According to Bilal Lashari, the achievement reflects the growing global recognition of Pakistani cinema. He noted that The Legend of Maula Jatt generated record-breaking business worldwide, earning more than $13 million globally and crossing Rs1 billion at the Pakistani box office.
The film is a modern reimagining of the 1979 Punjabi classic Maula Jatt, centring on the intense rivalry between Maula Jatt and his arch-enemy Noori Natt.
Its release in China is being viewed as a major step forward for the international expansion of Pakistan’s film industry, raising hopes that more Pakistani films may gain access to global markets in the future.
