Karachi: A meeting of Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is currently underway in Karachi to sight the moon of Zil Hajj and determine the date of Eid ul Adha. The meeting is being chaired by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

According to details, the central moon sighting committee meeting is being held at the Met Office in Karachi. Members of the central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees, along with experts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and SUPARCO, are also participating in the session.

Meanwhile, meetings of the zonal moon sighting committees are also taking place in provincial headquarters, including Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar.

Speaking to the media, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad said that no confirmed testimony of moon sighting had yet been received. He added that the committee remains in contact with zonal committees and an official announcement regarding Eid ul Adha would be made once credible moon sighting reports are received. He noted that the chances of moon sighting are strong and expressed hope that the Zil Hajj moon announcement would be made today.

On the other hand, a spokesperson for SUPARCO stated that there is a strong possibility of moon sighting this evening if weather conditions remain clear and visibility is favorable. The moon’s age at sunset is expected to be approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes.

According to the spokesperson, if the Zil Hajj moon is sighted today, Eid ul Adha will be observed on Wednesday, May 27. However, if the moon is not sighted, Eid ul Adha will fall on Thursday, May 28.
