Federal budget likely to be presented on June 10; summary sent to National Assembly and Senate

Islamabad: The government has decided to present the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 on June 10.

According to government sources, it has been proposed that the budget session be convened at 5:00 PM on June 10. A summary for summoning the National Assembly and Senate sessions has already been sent.

Sources said that a federal cabinet meeting will be held before the National Assembly's budget session. A special cabinet meeting will be convened at the Parliament House, where the cabinet will be briefed on the federal budget. After receiving cabinet approval, the budget documents will be presented in the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that the Prime Minister has called a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) on June 8, and a notification is expected to be issued today. The Prime Minister will chair the NEC meeting.

According to sources, federal ministers and the chief ministers of all four provinces will attend the meeting. The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan will also participate. The National Economic Council is expected to approve the development budget for the fiscal year 2026–27.

It is worth mentioning that a major breakthrough was achieved during a consultative meeting between the government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) yesterday. Both parties agreed to increase the size of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), which is expected to be expanded by approximately PKR 200 billion.

It should be recalled that a few days ago, President Asif Ali Zardari had approved convening the budget session on June 5; however, the date of the budget session was later changed.
