Field Marshal Munir meets Turkish President Erdogan, armed forces chief in Ankara

WEB DESK -- Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir has met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, according to a post on the Turkish Presidency’s X account.

Reuters reported that the meeting was held behind closed doors at the Ankara airport. The report said that Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Chief of Turkish General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu and National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalin also attended the meeting.

Separately, an X post by the Turkish embassy in Pakistan said CDF Munir was accorded a guard of honour by a tri-services contingent of the Turkish armed forces following his arrival in Ankara.

Rooted in brotherhood, mutual trust and a shared strategic vision, the enduring defence and military cooperation between Türkiye and Pakistan continues to grow stronger.

General Bayraktaroglu welcomed him during his official visit, the post said.

“Rooted in brotherhood, mutual trust and a shared strategic vision, the enduring defence and military cooperation between Turkiye and Pakistan continues to grow stronger,” the embassy’s post said.

During the visit, he called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of National Defence Yasar Güler to discuss matters of mutual interest and regional security.

These high-level deliberations underscored the shared vision of both nations to foster a more robust strategic partnership in the evolving geopolitical environment.

At the Turkish General Staff Headquarters, the Field Marshal was welcomed with a Guard of Honour. He held a detailed meeting with Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroglu. The two leaders discussed regional security dynamics and professional matters of mutual concern.

The Field Marshal was bestowed with the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal by General Selçuk Bayraktaroglu in recognition of his meritorious services and commitment to bolstering bilateral military cooperation.

The Field Marshal also visited the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, where he was received by Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel.

The Field Marshal visited Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, where he laid a floral wreath and paid respects to the founder of modern Turkiye, acknowledging his visionary leadership and the deep-rooted historical bonds between the two nations.

The visit of the Field Marshal signifies the resolve of both nations to further strengthen their multifaceted defence relationship and continue their joint efforts for regional peace and stability.
