Police tracking down suspects involved in harassing Lahore's woman through videos, photos: CCPO
Lahore: The city police chief Wednesday said Lahore police are tracking down hundreds of suspects who assaulted and harassed a female TikToker and her companions at the city's Greater Iqbal Park on August 14.
In a statement, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said the suspects were being identified through videos of the incident shared on social media, and that a number of photos and videos had been sent to the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to ascertain their identities.
On Tuesday, the Lorry Adda police had registered a case against nearly 400 suspects for harassing and assaulting the woman.
CM orders arrests
Earlier, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar directed the police to apprehend the culprits involved in groping of a woman at Minar-e-Pakistan by identifying them in different videos.
In a statement, he assured that the government would go to every extent to provide justice. It's a most regrettable, as well as tragic incident, and the State is responsible to fulfil the requirements of justice, he concluded.
NADRA's help sought in tracing suspects: IGP
Inspector General of Punjab Police Inam Ghani has said the accused who assaulted the woman Tik Toker and her accomplices didn't deserve any concession and no effort should be spared to punish them severely, says a news release.
He said the incident with the woman is very unfortunate and therefore a case has been registered against the accused involved in the incident under section 354-A which is punishable by life imprisonment or death penalty.
Gnai added that the photographs of the people involved in the incident have been sent to the Chairman NADRA and the staff of NADRA is busy in the process of identifying the accused despite the leave.
He further said all evidence against the accused would be collected and they would be arrested so that the responsible should be punished severely through a strong challan prepared in the light of evidence.
The IG Punjab directed the CCPO Lahore and the DIG Investigation to supervise the investigation of the case.
