NDMA warns of flash flooding in Punjab, KP, GB and AJK

ISLAMABAD -- Urban and flash flooding is expected in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours.

According to National Disaster Management Authority, the current wet spell may produce scattered rain, wind and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls. The upper catchments of major rivers are also expected to receive intermittent rainfall.

A low to medium risk of flash flooding has been forecast in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Kasur, Okara, Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad, Hafizabad and Sargodha.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, vulnerable areas include Gilgit, Diamir, Ghizer, Hunza, Skardu, Astore and Shigar, while several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and AJK are also at risk.

Urban flooding is particularly likely in Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan.

The authorities have advised residents in flood-prone areas, particularly near streams, hill torrents and nullahs, to avoid crossings and move to safer locations if necessary.

Emergency response teams have been directed to remain prepared, while authorities have been urged to monitor rainfall, river flows and vulnerable catchments and issue timely traffic advisories.
