Any attempt to create violent unrest or May 9-like situation to be dealt with decisively, affirms Army's top brass
The participants of 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference pay tribute to the sacrifices of the martyrs and offer Fateha for the personnel of the armed forces and law-enforcement agencies

RAWALPINDI -- Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has said that, with the support of the nation, Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully prepared to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
Field Marshal Munir made the remarks while presiding over the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters, where participants reviewed the prevailing security environment and operational preparedness.
The participants paid tribute to the sacrifices of the martyrs and offered Fateha for the personnel of the armed forces and law-enforcement agencies, as well as all those who laid down their lives in defence of the country.
The army chief directed formations to continue strengthening intelligence-based operations and to enhance their defensive capabilities through the acquisition of modern technology, improved training and greater integration across all domains of warfare.
The forum also discussed Pakistan’s internal and external security challenges. Participants resolved that any attempt to create violent unrest or circumstances similar to the May 9, 2023 incidents would be dealt with in accordance with the law and with decisive action, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
On counterterrorism, the participants stressed that military operations must be complemented by effective administrative and governance measures. They appreciated the intelligence-based counterterrorism operations conducted by law-enforcement agencies.
The forum said targeted action against terrorism emanating from Afghanistan constituted Pakistan’s right to defend itself. It also stressed the need for effective communication with the public on the causes of terrorism and for countering what it described as the nexus between certain elements involved in terrorism and criminal activity.
The corps commanders further emphasized strengthening the capacity of the police and said internal stability remained vital to Pakistan’s security.
Makkah defence agreement welcomed
The forum welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing it as an important development in strengthening the countries’ longstanding strategic relations and defence cooperation. The agreement, signed in August, provides that an armed attack against any one of the three states will be regarded as an attack against all three and aims to strengthen collective defence and deterrence.
Participants also strongly condemned the Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with the Kingdom. They reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of the holy sites.
On Kashmir, the forum reiterated Pakistan’s position that the dispute should be resolved in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
According to ISPR, the conference reaffirmed the armed forces’ resolve to remain prepared to respond to threats while continuing efforts to strengthen counterterrorism capabilities and national security.
