Sohail Ch appointed DIG Operations Lahore after 'police negligence' in Minar-e-Pakistan incident
Lahore: The Punjab government has appointed Faisalabad City Police Officer Captain (retired) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry as Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Lahore against an existing vacancy.
The government had earlier transferred DIG Operations Sajid Kyiani after police failed to respond to emergency calls made by a female TikToker who was allegedly assaulted and harassed at Minar-e-Pakistan on Independence Day.
Others who were shown the door were the SSP Operations Lahore, the SP City Operations, the DSP and the SHO concerned.
According to a notification issued from the Services and General Adminsitration, the government of Punjab, CPO Faisalabad Sohail Ch has been transferred and posted DIG Operations Lahore and Traffic Police Punjab DIG Imran Mahmood has been transferred and posted Faisalabad Regional Police Officer (RPO).
Punjab Highway Patrol DIG Dr Muhammad Abid Khan has been transferred and posted Faisalabad CPO vice DIG Sohail Ch.
Police arrest 34 more suspects
Lahore police on Monday announced the arrest of 34 more suspects in connection with the assault of a female TikToker and her team at Lahore's Greater Iqbal Park on Independence Day, taking the total number of suspects in custody to 126.
In a statement, Punjab Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani said police teams were working round the clock to arrest all suspects involved in the incident.
He said that 15 of the arrested suspects were being sent on judicial remand for identification.
He directed the Lahore DIG investigation to intensify efforts to arrest the remaining suspects with the help of geo-fencing and all evidence including records of Nadra.
