Voting for by-election begins in Balochistan, Sindh constituencies

Karachi: Voting for by-elections on one Balochistan Assembly constituency and two Sindh Assembly constituencies has begun on Tuesday.

According to details, the elections are being contested in Karachi’s PS-88 and Sanghar’s PS-43, as well as Pishin’s PB-20 for by-elections.

In Karachi’s PS-88 Malir, 20 candidates are taking part in by-elections including Jansher Junejo of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muhammad Yousuf Baloch of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Sajid Ahmed of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) and Syed Kashif Ali of Tahreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). With 108 polling stations, the constituency has a total of 145,627 registered voters.

In Sanghar’s PS-43, a tough competition is expected between PPP’s Shabbir Ali Khan and PTI’s Mushtaq Junejo, whereas PTI also has the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F).

In Balochistan’s PB-20 Pishin-III, a close contest is expected between Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate and the joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). There are 113 polling stations out of which three have been declared most sensitive.

Strict security arrangements have been made during the by-polls to avoid any unfortunate incident.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had also banned usage of mobile phones within the premises of polling stations including polling staff and agents. Only Presiding Officers (POs) are allowed to carry and use cell phones.
