FDE bans 'Tight jeans, t-shirts’; issues dress code for male, female educationists
Islamabad: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has directed all educational institutes to implement newly issued dress code for female and male teachers— prohibiting educationists from wearing jeans, tights and t-shirts.
As per new directives, the FDE asked female teachers not to wear jeans and tights and banned their male counterparts from wearing jeans and t-shirts during duty hours.
All principals have been directed to ensure that their teaching and non-teaching staff could ensure personal hygiene, including regular haircut, beard trimming, nail cutting and use of perfume/ deodorant.
Through a letter issued by the director academics stated, “Heads/section in-charges of all institutions shall ensure that each staff member observes proper measures in his physical appearance and personal hygiene”.
In addition, the letter states that the gatekeeper also should be in his recommended uniform that is allotted to all support staff.
According to dress code, all employees shall maintain a formal dress code in institutions, campuses and during official functions, functions and meetings.
“It is recommended that all teaching staff should wear teaching gowns while teaching in classes and lab coats while taking practical periods in laboratories,” the letter said.
The official letter further added that properly ironed clothes and suitable footwear is mandatory.
For women, the letter recommended a formal attire including, suitable simple salwar kameez, trousers and shirt with dupatta/shawl.
Only formal footwear is allowed including pumps, loafers and mules. While casual footwear, such as sneakers and sandals are being prohibited and wearing slippers is not endorsed at all.
During the winter season, coats, blazers as well as sweaters, jerseys, cardigans and shawls of nice colors and designs are allowed.
For male teachers, the letter stated that wear appropriate, simple and decent salwar kameez with waistcoat as per weather conditions.
“Wear dress shirt with full sleeve tie and trousers,” the letter said adding that half-sleeved shirts or bush shirts may also be worn during the summer, but not all types of T-shirts are permitted.
For men, only formal footwear (dress shoes, loafers, moccasins and boots) should be worn and casual shoes such as sneakers and sandals may also be worn during long hours of teaching.
However, wearing slippers is not allowed at all.
