Pandora Papers reveal 700 Pakistanis, includes PTI ministers

Islamabad: International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has released Pandora Papers (Panama-2) which hold an investigation uncovering financial secrets held by high-profile individuals across the world, includes the names of more than 700 Pakistanis.

According to details, the names of at least 700 Pakistanis are said to be on the Pandora Papers. Some retired army officials, businessmen, and media owners, politicians including federal finance minister Shaukat Tareen, have also been included in this leak.

Renowned Pakistani personalities names in Pandora papers: 

  • Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin
  • Federal minister Moonis Elahi
  • Senator Faisal Vawda
  • Son of PMLN’s Ishaq Dar
  • Sharjeel Inam Memon of PPP
  • Family of Minister Industries Khusro Bakhtiar
  • Son of former SAMP Waqar Masood
  • Shoaib Shaikh of Axact 

Some International names are also included in leaks: 

  • Shah Abdullah of Jordan
  • Tony Blair, former prime minister of the UK
  • Qatar’s ruler
  • Leaders of Ukraine, Kenya, and the Czech Republic
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin

The non-profit newsroom and journalist network based in Washington DC, International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), has received more than 11.9 million documents containing 2.94 terabytes worth of confidential information from service providers who helped set up and manage offshore companies and trusts in tax havens around the world.

The files expose how some of the most powerful people in the world – including more than 330 politicians from 90 countries – use secret offshore companies to hide their wealth.

The files also detail the financial activities of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “unofficial minister of propaganda” and more than 130 billionaires from Russia, the United States, Turkey, and other nations.

Earlier on Saturday, ICIJ announced in a tweet saying that it was the “most expansive exposé of financial secrecy yet”.

This global investigation will surpass even the Panama Papers of 2016, and two Pakistanis journalists were also a part of Pandora's papers investigation.
