Islamabad: Former President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have vowed to get Joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Yousuf Raza Gillani elected in the forthcoming Senate polls.

According to GNN, the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakisan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have decided to get former premier Gillani elected in Senate elections and in this regard PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari had high-level contacts.
The two leaders discussed country’s political situation, including the upcoming Senate elections in which PDM is supporting Gillani on Islamabad’s seat.
Gillani will also arrive in Karachi today to hold consultations with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari, in order to work out a success plan.
As per sources said the PPP leader also contacted PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman as soon as his nomination papers were accepted.
Earlier yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the objections raised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and accepted the nomination papers of former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani for Senate elections.
The electoral body, in a detailed decision, stated that the five-year disqualification of Gillani has ended and the cases against him are pending in the courts.
The pending cases in courts cannot prevent anyone from contesting the elections; therefore, Gillani is eligible to contest the Senate polls, the verdict added.
