Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has recommended an increase of up to Rs10 per litre in prices of various petroleum products effective, if approved new prices will be applicable from October 16 (Saturday).
According to sources, petrol price is likely to go up by about Rs6 a litre after the OGRA recommended an increase of up to Rs10 a litre for petroleum products.
In this regard, a summary has also been sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan for approval. However, the Ministry of Finance will take a final decision after consultation with the Premier.
The new prices will be applicable after the release of an official notification.
Reports quoting sources said that the regulatory authority recommended a surge in petrol price by Rs5.90 a litre and high-speed diesel price by Rs10 a litre.
Earlier in September, the federal government had increased the prices of POL products by up to Rs8.82.
Meanwhile, the federal government has approved an increase in the power tariff by Rs1.68 per unit, in a bid to remain in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme—reneging from a four-month-old stance to not further raise the rates.
