Sheikhupura: Due to foggy conditions, more than 30 vehicles have piled up on motorway M2 near Kala Shah Kaku in Sheikhupura on Tuesday morning.

The multi-vehicle collision was caused by dense smog that has hit Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plains. Speeding vehicles rammed into one another while trying to stop after 1 collision.

Rescue 1122 crew arrived at the spot with ambulances. Paramedics were seen tending to people with minor injuries.

Rescue officials said at least 20 people were injured and at least 10 of them were moved to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Muridke.

Motorway police and FWO staff also responded to the crash.

The motorway was blocked after the crash.

A dense fog has hit Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plains causing traffic disruptions. Sections of motorways M1, connecting Peshawar with Islamalabad, M11, connecting Lahore to Sialkot, and M3 connecting Lahore to Multan were closed on Monday morning.

Rupee further strengthens against greenback, closes at 175.92

Karachi: Pakistan's rupee shown strength against the US dollar on Monday to close at 175.92 in the inter-bank market.

The recovery was supported by a weak dollar demand for import payments and exporters' forward selling of the greenback.

The rupee appreciated as much as 175.5 in intra-day trading but ended with clipped gains.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan, the rupee finished with a gain of 0.09% or 15 paisas day-on-day against the US dollar.

Two children killed, another injured in grenade explosion in Swat

Swat: Two children were killed and other was wounded after a hand-grenade they were playing exploded in Nimaki village of tehsil Habal on Monday, police said.

Police said the two victims were pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics, while the injured was transported to the tehsil headquarters hospital.

Police are probing the incident.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan expressed his profound grief over the deaths of kids.

He ordered the police to probe the incident and submit report to his office.

PM's use of religion as 'cover-up' for economic, governance breakdown a matter of concern: Shehbaz

PML-N president and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif Monday said he was "really concerned" with the way Prime Minister Imran Khan was "using religion as a cover-up for the massive governance and economic breakdown" in the country, which he attributed to the latter's policies.

"Such a self-serving approach will wreak greater damage upon the polity than is being understood," he said on Twitter.

Shehbaz's criticism came hours after an article penned by the premier titled 'Spirit of Riyasat-i-Madina: Transforming Pakistan' was published in which he talked about the five basic tenets of Islam and how, in order for the country to realise its potential, society will have to struggle to embody these principles as a nation.
