Governor signs Punjab Local Bodies Ordinance 2021

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar signed the Punjab Local Bodies Ordinance 2021 on Saturday.
Speaking on this occasion, he said the new local government system will empower the people in real sense.
He said for the first time, the people will elect their mayors by direct vote while power has been transferred to Mayors to lead important institutions under the new system.
The Punjab governor said the Mayors of the metropolitan and Mayors of the District Councils will also be elected directly by the people.
He said under the Punjab Local Bodies Ordinance, local body elections will be held on a party basis in the province.
