Seoul: Acclaimed K-POP group BTS aka Bangtan Sonyeondan swept nine awards including four Daesangs (grand prizes) in the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) for 3 years in a row.
The MAMA was held on Saturday (December 11) at CJ ENM’s Contents World in Paju City, Gyeonggi Province.
For the third consecutive year, the septet was on a roll at the award show—having achieved an all-kill yet again even though they did not participate in 2021 MAMA.
BTS received not only the grand prize, but also the Favorite Moment, Male Group Award, Best Dance Performance Male Group, Best Music Video, and Worldwide Fan’s Choice TOP10, taking a total of 9 awards.
This year the most anticipated award show was hosted by veteran singer Lee Hyori—first time that a female artist has hosted it.
Lee Hyo-ri not only hosted the show, she also collaborated with Street Woman Fighter, an eight-person strong dance crew, for a special performance.
‘MAMA’, which reflected Gaon Chart music data in the judgement until last year, added Apple Music data to actively reflect its global influence in the judgement from this year.
Remarkably, BTS won the Daesang for three consecutive years from 2019 at MAMA awards.
The septet has recently returned to Korea after a concert in the US, hence, was unable to attend the awards ceremony amid self-quarantine.
In the meantime, the global stars are on official long vacation and plan to spend the year-end and New Year holidays with their family.
