Pakistan's COVID death toll nears 29,000, but some good omens
Amid a steady decline in Covid-19 infections, Pakistan's coronavirus positivity ratio further fell to 0.61%.
Islamabad: Pakistan’s registered death toll from coronavirus infections rose towards 29,000 on Monday, but some data suggested the spread of the disease has been contained.
Around 244 fresh coronavirus cases emerged while 6 people succumbed to the disease in last 24 hours amid 'Omicron' threat.
Following the alarming situation, Pakistan’s government will step up COVID-19 vaccination efforts and is expanding the criteria for vaccine booster shots.

According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 244 persons were tested positive while 6 died in the past 24 hours— taking Pakistan's COVID death toll to 28,836.
The total number of cases has reached 1,289,293.
As many as 1,251,409 patients have recovered from the disease.
Punjab
The number of patients swelled to 443,886 in the province with 13,052 causalities.
Sindh
The number of infections has surged to 478,017 in the province, while the death toll has reached 7,638.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The confirmed cases have surged to 180,696 in the province with 5,892 casualties.
Balochistan
There are 33,532 confirmed cases while 363 patients have died from the infection so far.
AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
There are 34,608 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 743. On the other hand, there are 10,426 cases in GB with 186 coronavirus deaths.
Islamabad
There are 108,128 cases in the capital city while 962 people have lost their lives.
