Cannabis used as medicine in many countries to cure diseases: Justice Mazahar
SC acknowledges separation in punishment of Cannabis, Heroine consumption
Islamabad: Supreme Court Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi has said that cannabis is a cure for many diseases and it is used as medicine in different countries.
Justice Mazahar remarked while a seven-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Ijazul Hassan hearing the case regarding the convictions of drug accused.
The Supreme Court directed the judicial aides to submit written submissions and said that a Senate committee was enacting legislation on drug offenders and key developments in the Senate committee should be informed to the court.
Khawaja Harris said that the legislation being enacted by the government would have penalties according to the nature of different drugs.
Justice Sajjad Ali Shah remarked that earlier the punishment for cannabis and heroin was equal and acknowledged separation in punishment of Cannabis and Heroine consumption.
Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi remarked that cannabis is a cure for many diseases and strengthens human nerves, adding that In different countries cannabis is used as medicine.
Jamal Khan Mandokhail said that now the government has also formulated a policy on cannabis.
Moreover it ordered the court to provide written details and further scheduled the next hearing in January. The top court adjourned the hearing of the case related to the convictions of drug accused till the last week of January.
