COVID: Pakistan reports over 700 cases for first time in two months

Islamabad: Pakistan has reported more than 700 coronavirus cases for the first time in two month as fourth wave rages across country, with authorities linking the spike with the Omicron variant of virus.
Following a surge, around 708 fresh coronavirus cases emerged while 2 people succumbed to the disease in last 24 hours amid 'Omicron' threat.
Pakistan’s government has expanded the criteria for vaccine booster shots amid Omicron threat.
According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 708 persons were tested positive while 8 died in the past 24 hours— taking Pakistan's COVID death toll to 28,933.
The total number of cases has reached 1,295,933.
As many as 1,256,816 patients have recovered from the disease.
Punjab
The number of patients swelled to 445,107 in the province with 13,070 causalities.
Sindh
The number of infections has surged to 482,029 in the province, while the death toll has reached 7,670.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The confirmed cases have surged to 181,402 in the province with 5,930 casualties.
Balochistan
There are 33,638 confirmed cases while 364 patients have died from the infection so far.
AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
There are 34,662 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 746. On the other hand, there are 10,429 cases in GB with 186 coronavirus deaths.
Islamabad
There are 108,666 cases in the capital city while 967 people have lost their lives.
