Paris: Acclaimed French fashion designer Thierry Mugler, whose flamboyant creations transformed haute couture passed away. He was 73.

Thierry Mugler was widely known for designs with broad shoulders and sharp tailoring, which drew on 1940s and 50s glamour.  

"We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23rd 2022," the post read, using his full name. "May his soul Rest In Peace".

The designer's brand, Mugler, also confirmed the news via an Instagram post.

Born in Strasbourg, France, in 1948, he worked as a freelance designer in Paris before launching his eponymous label in 1974.

By the 1980s, Mugler had established himself as a major figure in international fashion market, with his structural, broad-shouldered designs.  

Also a prominent perfumer, he released his hugely popular scent "Angel" in 1992, helping to forge a now-established link between luxury fashion and fragrance.

After the news of his sad demise, tributes began pouring in from the fashion world.

Moreover, his designs have been worn by names that include David Bowie, George Michael, Sharon Stone and Rihanna.

Furthermore, Mugler's connection with Bowie was so strong that he dressed him for his wedding.
