WhatsApp may bid farewell to unlimited Google Drive backups
WhatsApp users on Android have been enjoying unlimited Google Drive backups for a long time but this is expected to change in the near future
San Francisco: Meta-owned WhatsApp backups on Google Drive may no longer get unlimited storage space in future as some references surfaced online—suggesting a limit for backups for Android users.
According reliable tipster WABetainfo, the instant messaging service is planning to put a cap on Google Drive backup storage.
This is similar to how iCloud backups work for iPhone users where they have to buy more storage from Apple if they wish to store more. The platform may introduce some changes to help users manage their backup size on Android devices.
The iPhone users already have limited space for storing backups on iCloud.
WhatsApp users will be notified when their Google Drive storage is sort of full when the restricted limit is reached, and in addition when the modifications will take impact.
Although, the upcoming change won’t be shocking as Google has already axed free storage for Google Photos. It appears to be like an analogous transfer shall be taken for platform too.
A screenshot has been shared in the report which shows some important strings that indicate what is changing in future updates.
