Islamabad: Former interior minister Rehman Malik was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital for treatment of post-COVID complications.

As per family sources, the lungs of Rehman Malik has been affected by the coronavirus. The former interior minister who has been admitted to a private hospital is currently shifted to the ICU.

Earlier, the former interior minister was hospitalized after tested positive for coronavirus and developed lungs complication involving respiratory system.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari sent a bouquet to senior PPP leader Rehman Malik who is being treated for post-Covid complications. Zardari wished early recovery to the former interior minister.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan has recorded a drop in daily COVID-19 cases as the country logged 5,327 fresh cases of the pandemic during the last 24 hours.

On the other hand, Pakistan has witnessed an enormous spike in its daily tally of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) after as many as 5,327 new infections were logged in the last 24 hours.

Pakistan imposed new restrictions to curb the fast-spreading Omicron variant, hence, the positivity rate now stands at 9.65%. While, the cumulative tally of the country has now climbed to 1,430,366.    

As the fifth wave of COVID-19 intensifies, Pakistan reported 5,327 new coronavirus infections, a new daily record, with authorities linking the spike with the Omicron variant of virus.  

According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 5,327 persons were tested positive while 32 died in the past 24 hours— taking Pakistan's COVID death toll to 29,301.     

As many as 1,295,390 patients have recovered from the disease.   

Punjab
The number of patients swelled to 478,527 in the province with 13,160 causalities.

Sindh
The number of infections has surged to 541,693 in the province, while the death toll has reached 7,821.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The confirmed cases have surged to 194,166 in the province with 5,998 casualties.

Balochistan
There are 34,390 confirmed cases while 367 patients have died from the infection so far.

AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
There are 38,115 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 755. On the other hand, there are 10,651 cases in GB with 188 coronavirus deaths.

Islamabad
There are 127,497 cases in the capital city while 980 people have lost their lives.
