Islamabad: Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said on Monday that the process of talks has been started with the Parliamentary Parties in the Senate and National Assembly on the constitutional package.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he said it will be our effort to evolve consensus on the document.

Tarar asked the opposition parties to come up with positive recommendations instead of undue criticisms, assuring these will be accommodated. He said our aim should be to provide relief to the people suffering over the last seven decades or so.

The Law Minister maintained that the legislation in line with the constitutional structure is the prerogative of the Parliament.

He said the proposed package envisaged formation of the judicial commission as per the spirit of the 18th amendment and it was proposed to empower the judicial commission to evaluate the performance of the judges of the high court.

PPP Leader Naveed Qamar said discussions on the constitutional package should be held in a congenial environment. He urged the Opposition to sit together and work for the betterment of the country.

Shahida Begum of JUI (F) said they will be part of any good legislation. She said time warrants that there should be consensus on legislation.

Dr Farooq Sattar of MQM said strengthening local governments should also be made part of the constitutional package.

Karachi: The Sindh government on Monday launched biometric verification for the registration and transfer of vehicles across the province.

Provincial Excise Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that starting from July 1, the registration of new vehicles will be conducted through biometric verification in the first phase.

According to Memon, under this system, both the buyer and seller of a vehicle will need to undergo biometric authentication to complete the transfer of ownership.

In the second phase, biometric verification of vehicle buyers from November 1 will begin, and in the third phase, biometric verification of both the vehicle buyer and seller will be done.

Minister Memon emphasized that this initiative aims to make the vehicle registration process more transparent and to protect citizens from fraud and illegal transfers. "This is an important milestone in promoting biometric authentication. It will safeguard citizens against illegal transfer of vehicles and fraudulent activities," he said.

The minister added that for further assistance, citizens can refer to the NADRA e-facility centres or any district excise office for inquiries regarding biometric verification.
