Zardari claims to clinch 172 votes over no-trust move

Islamabad: Former president Asif Ali Zardari has claimed to clinch 172 votes over no-confidence motion against Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan in the National Assembly.
The PPP co-chairman said in a joint press conference with Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and PDM head Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
During a press conference, the leadership of the joint opposition –Shehbaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman – said that they were hopeful that the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan will be successful and more than 172 members will vote in favour of the move.
Shehbaz Sharif said that a consultation of the joint opposition was held yesterday in which it was decided that no-confidence motion against PM Imran would be submitted in the National Assembly today. “We kept this as a secret and everyone obeyed it, today all the parties signed the requisition and no-confidence motion with their members and today we have submitted it,” he added.
Earlier, about half a dozen senior opposition Member of National Assembly (MNAs) have submitted the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan with the NA secretariat on Tuesday.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that a delegation of senior opposition lawmakers including Naveed Qamar and Rana Sanaulllah, submitted the no-trust motion against Imran Khan.
“The signatures are more that the required numbers,” PML-N’s Marriyum Aurangzeb told reporters at the Parliament House.
In order to make the no-confidence move successful, the opposition requires the support of 172 members of the National Assembly.
Reportedly, over 80 MPs have signed the motion—seeking to remove the incumbent premier from office.
