No-trust move: NA session called on March 25
Pakistan's parliament will be convened on March 25 to present a no-confidence move against Prime Minister Imran Khan
Islamabad: Following the political turmoil, the federal government has decided to convene a session of the National Assembly on March 25 instead of March 21 to take up the no-confidence move—submitted by the opposition— against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The development came after the joint opposition parties threatened to stage demonstration in the National Assembly Hall from March 21, disrupting the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit— if no-confidence motion was not tabled in the lower house on Monday.
Earlier, National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser summoned the session of the lower house to deliberate on the opposition's no-confidence resolution against Imran Khan on March 25, according to a notification issued from the NA Secretariat.
The session will convene at 11am on Friday and will be the 41st session of the current National Assembly.
It was summoned after the joint opposition made the requisition for it along with the submission of the no-confidence motion against the prime minister on March 8.
As per Article 54 of the Constitution, the Speaker is required to convene a NA session within 14 days after receiving a request from the opposition.
Since the opposition submitted the request on March 8, the session should be called by March 21.
