PDM chief stresses upholding constitution first, moving towards elections later
Maulana Fazlur Rehman says MNAs should be given the right to vote on the no-confidence motion
Islamabad: The Opposition could move toward elections once the Constitution has been upheld in the country, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Fazlur Rehman said on Monday.
Talking to reporters, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman said a constitutional crisis had been created in the country at present.
Fazl's comments came after Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri dismissed the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday, saying it was backed by "foreign powers".
He said Imran Khan had dissolved the National Assembly, and the President made no haste to issue a notification to dissolve the Assembly.
Fazl appealed the top court to reject the ruling of the Deputy Speaker regarding no-confidence motion.
He said MNAs should be given the right to vote on the no-confidence motion, adding the government of 2018 was formed by rigging.
Fazl said that Imran dissolved the assembly on the basis of presumption, based on the rolling of the Deputy Speaker. "This game is intolerable. We will not allow this game to continue. He will not be able to get up now."
Referring to PTI workers, the PDM chief said they (PTI leaders) sometimes called the youth on the streets, but they would not even get a place in the bills.
"Do not try to hide behind the letter, tell your performance of three and a half years, these games will not work, we will compete with you."
The PDM chief questioned {Imran Khan} that, "Which mouth would you go in front of the people again and with which mouth will you go to the Kaaba. You are not ashamed. We want elections but the constitution has been violated. To be guaranteed an election, going to the polls in this environment means going into muddy water."
He said that they {the Opposition} could not adopt a soft attitude at all as they had struggled for three and a half years, asking the PTI on what basis were they celebrating?
"You want to celebrate by cheating, now you have to celebrate, not you."
He further said that they wanted the institutions to come out of the public debate, if they came to the public debate then they should peek into their own collars.
"There should be no interference in the selection of any institution, voting should be according to the agenda. Yes, dissolving the assembly session is a conspiracy, not a literal conspiracy."
