Muslim boy assaulted for drinking water from temple, accused arrested after viral video

New Delhi: A Hindu man was arrested after the video of him trashing a 14-year old Muslim boy for drinking water at a temple went viral. The incident took place in Ghaziabad, a town in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

The clip was reportedly first uploaded on an Instagram account.

In the video, the accused Shringi Nandan Yadav can be seen asking the boy his and his father's name and upon learning that he is Muslim, Yadav asked the boy why he had entered the temple, to which the minor replied that he wanted to drink water.

The video of the incident gone viral on the social media, triggering outrage among people who condemned the inhuman incident demanding action against the accused.

The original video was uploaded saying that the Muslim kid was beaten by Shringi Yadav in Dasna Devi Mandir.

“We have arrested one person after the video went viral on social media. We are investigating to find out the exact reason for such behavior” said the police officer.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch (HRW) in its World Report 2021 said, “Attacks continued against minorities, especially Muslims, even as authorities failed to take action against BJP leaders who vilified Muslims and BJP supporters who engaged in violence”.
