‘She is epitome of strength, confidence’; Serena Williams praises her friend Meghan Markle
Tennis star Serena Williams has backed her best friend Meghan Markle following her interview with Oprah Winfrey, which brought the plenty of royal family drama to the spotlight for the first time.
In a statement, the 39-year old sportswoman termed Meghan Markle an epitome of strength and confidence.
Meghan, who is an A-list Hollywood actress, had made some shocking revelations in the interview and talked about how much scrutiny she received from the royal family and the British press, which had a major impact on her mental health leaving her with suicidal thoughts.
Commenting on Meghan’s interview, Williams said that Meghan is a great person.
“I think she is an epitome of strength, the epitome of confidence, the epitome of just selflessness, and the epitome of everything is just her and everything that she's gone through,” the 23-time grand slam winner said adding,
"And I know it's not easy, and you can see from the interview that it wasn't easy. But she had so much poise and she still had so much class.”
Williams had also shared a statement on her twitter account earlier this month right after the interview aired on March 7.
"I just think that she is the strongest person I know. I don't know anyone else that could handle anything on such a global scale the way that she's had to handle things that are just untrue - minute after minute. Not even day after day. Just minute after minute, another untrue allegation being thrown at her,” she wrote.
“I think it was important for me to say something because I'm tired of sitting back and seeing all this negativity that's just not true,” she added.
