San Francisco: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter Elon Musk Sunday launched a poll on the social media platform asking if 'he should quit as the owner of the company'.

The poll is scheduled to end at 1120GMT on Monday. The Tesla owner had not given details about stepping down if the poll result turns out to be ‘yes’.

Following the poll, a Twitter user questioned about the possible upcoming CEO, to which Musk replied: “There is no successor”.

In November, the billionaire told Delaware court that he would spend less time at Twitter and a new head would lead the company.

The poll was generated after Twitter’s Sunday policy update prohibiting accounts exclusively used to promote other social media companies and content that links to other platforms.

Before generating the poll, Musk apologized and tweeted, “Going forward, there will be a vote for major policy changes”.

Musk started a poll asking users if Twitter should introduce a policy to prevent accounts from advertising other social media platforms on Twitter.

In the meantime, Twitter support stated, “The policy update would impact the content of other social media platforms like Meta Platforms’ Facebook and Instagram, along with Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post while allowing cross-content posting”.

Notably, TikTok— short video platform owned by China’s ByteDance Ltd— was not included in the list.

Replying to the Twitter support post, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who recently invested in a social media platform, said: “Why?”.

While responding to another user who posted about the ban of Nostr promotion, Dorsey said: “Doesn’t make sense”.

The policy change follows other chaotic actions at Twitter since the Tesla owner had bought the social network.
