Punjab Assembly stands dissolve as governor declines to sign summary

Lahore: The Punjab Assembly Saturday dissolved on its own after Governor Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman refused to sign the summary sent by Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi..
Governor Punjab was not part of the process of assembly dissolution. He had refused to sign the summary stating that by doing so there is no fear of any obstacle in the constitutional process, there is a way forward for all matters with clarification in the constitution and law.
According to details, Parvaiz Elahi will hold the post of Chief Minister till the appointment of caretaker Chief Minister.
Imran Khan has decided to meet Parvez Elahi today (Sunday) for the caretaker set-up in Punjab.
Governor Punjab has issued a letter to Pervaiz Elahi and opposition leader Hamza Shehbaz for the appointment of Caretaker Chief Minister.
The governor called for the agreed name for caretaker chief minister by 10pm on January 17.
On Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Elahi had sent a summary to Governor Rehman, stating to dissolve the provincial assembly soon after Chief Minister survived a vote of confidence in the assembly despite a boycott by the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
On the other hand, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has directed the party leaders to prepare for the elections in Punjab.
Reportedly, Nawaz Sharif presided over the PML-N meeting with Shehbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah, Azam Nazir Tarar and other important leaders via video link.
The chief has directed that the party leaders and workers should be mobilized in the entire Punjab and prepare well to participate in elections.
