Problem took place after Gen (retd) Bajwa favoured some crooks, says Imran Khan
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI) Chairman Imran Khan says that the incumbent military leadership had realized that the experiment of regime change went wrong.
Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan said the incumbent military leadership had realized that the experiment of regime change went wrong.
The PTI chief believed that the problem took place when former military chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa favoured some of the biggest crooks in the country.
He expressed these words during an interview with Voice of America on Sunday.
Imran Khan said that Bajwa wanted the PTI government to ignore the biggest problem and work in cooperation with the corruption leaders by giving them immunity from their corruption cases.
He stated that former army chief had close ties with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and they did conspiracy which resulted into regime change.
“I’m sure that there is realization among the new military leadership that this experience of regime change has gone wrong,” said Khan.
He emphasized that the elected governments must have authority as well as responsibility, adding that the country failed whenever there was lack of authority and responsibility.
Talking about the balance of power, Imran Khan said that the elected government that had the responsibility, which people had mandated through their vote, must also had the authority.
He was of the view that responsibility and authority could not be separated, and any system, without these two things, could not work.
Imran Khan made it clear that if the authority lies with the army chief while the responsibility was with the prime minister then system could not work.
Answering a question about his ties with the military as a prime minister, Khan said that military meant one, the army chief, in Pakistan and al the policy of the military depended on one individual.
“The whole policy of military vis-a-vis their dealing with the civilian government depends on the personality of one man,” he added.
Khan said his government had good ties with the former military chief and it was seen when Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.
The economic and political situation of the country was in worst crisis at the moment, he said, pointing out that there was no chance of elections seemed impossible because the credibility of the ECP as an impartial electoral body got damaged.
He stated that Sindh local government elections were held recently but all the parties rejected it.
In his interview, Khan also stressed upon strong ties between Pakistan and AFgjaistan. His government, the PTI Chief said, had a good terms with Ashraf Ghani-led government.
He came down hard upon Bilawal Bhutto, saying that he spent almost all his time out of Pakistan, but he did not pay visit to Kabul. Strong ties with Afghanistan, he added, were very important for Pakistan.
Khan said that Pakistan was not in a position to have another war on terror.
