18,000 cows killed in Texas dairy farm explosion
According to farm administration, some of the cows have sustained the injuries while others have been rescued.
Texas: 18,000 cows died in an explosion in a South Fork dairy farm located near Dimmit Town in the US state of Texas, British media reported.
Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) based in Washington DC also confirmed the death of 18,000 animals.
Media reports have stated that efforts are being made by the administration to find out the causes of the explosion. However, the administration believes that due to the machinery in the farm, fire erupted due to methane gas which caused the explosion.
According to farm administration, some of the cows have sustained the injuries while others have been rescued.
It also stated that the accident injured a person badly who is in serious condition.
The blaze was the most devastating US barn fire involving cattle since the AWI began tracking such incidents in 2013. Around 6.5 million farm animals have died in such fires in the last decade, most of them poultry.
